Introduction

Dear colleagues,

On behalf of the international organizing committee, it’s my pleasure to invite you to the 22nd Magnet Technology Conference, held in Marseille, France from 11 – 16 September 2011 at the Parc Chanot congress center

In the four decades since the MT conference began, we have witnessed enormous gains in both the performance and applications of permanent, resistive, pulsed, hybrid, and superconducting magnets.  The advancements made by the scientists and engineers that comprise our technical community have enabled magnets to play a key role in fields as diverse as medical imaging, low-temperature physics, pharmaceutical R&D, high energy particle physics, and nuclear fusion projects such as ITER

MT-22 will be a five-day conference bringing together the leading scientists and engineers in the field of magnet technology, and we look forward to your participation.  In addition to the plenary sessions and invited talks, as well as oral and poster presentations, we will be celebrating the discovery of superconductivity 100 years ago in 1911.

Papers accepted after peer review will be published in the IEEE Transactions on Applied Superconductivity, a leading scientific journal on magnet and superconducting technologies. Abstract submission will open in January 2011 and registration for the conference will begin in June 2011. Please visit our home page at www.mt22.org for the latest updates.

In parallel, a Scientific and Industrial Exhibition will bring together industry, research laboratories and institutions active in magnet technology. Companies and research institutes are invited to this forum to display their activities and latest developments.

Marseille is a vibrant and beautiful city in the south of France, only 80 km from the construction site of the ITER Organization, one of the world’s most ambitious magnet technology projects to ever be undertaken.  Our schedule for the week will allow you and your guests to explore both the city and the ITER site, and we are proud to be able to host this conference and offer the best of Provence to our colleagues world-wide.
